Main Task - Post Production - Diary Entry
After all of the filming has been completed, then it was now time to complete the editing process. Throughout the duration of the filming we came across a couple of problems, these problems were, that one of the actors was unable to pronounce some of the words that were in the script therfore we had to alter on the spot, then after the filming alter the script on the scribd. One of the other problems was that the light was still to bright at the time we intended to film in the first place, therefore we had to wait longer to start filming, resulting in the actor which was playing the villain having other plans and needing to leave the setting early than expected. The way we resolved this was by filming the part with the villian in first.
Overall the filming was a success because we were able to complete all of the scenes and we were able to do some second and third takes of shots to select from a range choosing the best angle or lighting.

Preliminary Task - Diary Entry
Once as a class we were set this production, we were then put into the groups by the teachers. I was completing the production with Michael Raucci, once assigned into the groups we had to come up with a basic idea on what we wanted the production to be about.
Our Idea was about a young child has had to deal with his mother dying at a early stage in his life, he needs to go and see a therapist to help him through this event but one time when he visit the therapist something strange happens.
After all of the filming was completed and the production was successful, and after facing some problems along the way such as actors not be able to act and cameras being unavailable, when then went on to complete the evaluation.

Main task - Pre Production - Recce
Below are some pictures just recently took for our Recce.
The images show inside the house, which is where it will start. Some of the pictures will then show the street that the two detectives walk through. And finally there is some pictures of the Alley way where it finishes.
The first few images show the room where Detective Dixon and Detective Miles will have their conversation at the start. Currently in the images the room looks modern, but we will try our best to give it some kind of old fashioned feel.

Pre Production - Target Audience
Different film genres have different target audiences. As I have looked at recent studies that people have completed, it appears to show that the age range of people that are interested are 40 to 80 year olds, the main reason why this is because this type of film was the type that this age range grew up watching throughout their childhood. On the other there is also a younger aged audience interested in Film Noir for the reasons of gaining a better understanding of what the movie concept was in the 1940's, from uderstanding lifestyles and how the criminal underworld has been portrayed from then, to now.
The target gender is aimed towards males, this is distinguished by the entire planning, making and history of film noir, an example of this which attracts males is an attractive femme fatal. Another reason for the male audience is that the basic Film Noir plot is based around the ciminal underworld and the cases that a detective has tov complete and the tasks ahead.

Main Task - Pre Production - Props and Costumes
Props
In our production our villain Bruno will be using the gun as the weapon to kill his undercover accomplice which is secertly feeding him information from the detective cases so that he doesn't get caught. This is also a convention for villains because they are the ones which usally use the weapons as a threat.
Here are some examples of possible guns to be used;
The male character in a typical Film Noir production is normally wearing a long trench coat and a shirt and tie with one of the following detective hats

These three guns follow the Film Noir genre as revolvers and small side arms were used frequently in fire fights or murders. However, a revolver seems like the likely choice as it does add to the effect of a villain such as ours by having such a costly weapon.
In the opening scene, other props such as a clock and papers placed on the desk will be used. Also, an additional lamp maybe used to add to the office scene when the detectives are working on the case.

The final character is our femme fatale. She will be wearing a skirt which fits the appearance of a conventional female character in a film noir production. Her appearance will be beautiful and striking to the audience which again fits the conventions. As important as the detectives and their hats, the femme fatale's hair needs to fit the 1940/50's look. Modern looks today are much different to those of the 40's and 50's. When preparing for filming these considerations for the femme fatale will be taken into account so that her appearance is what is expected of a female character in a film noir production. Below are some examples of dress wear and hair styles;

Main Task - Production - Plot
Characters
Detective – Dixon (Detective Dixon)
Assistant Detective – Miles (Detective Miles)
Femme Fatale (Glamorous Girl) – Lola
Villain – Bruno
Plot
Detective Dixon and Miles are working on a series of murder cases that are all linked to the infamous “Bruno”. No matter how hard they try, whenever they get close to finding evidence against the murderer he always seems to slip away. It could be coincidence or just the criminal mind overpowering the detective’s skills. The truth of the murders is closer than he imagines and is right under his nose without realising.
Dixon follows Miles on a bleak night to distant alleyway. Miles meets a shadowy figure – the criminal, Bruno. Muffled words are all that the detective can hear from the conversation, without warning a gunshot is heard and all that is left is Miles’ body left to die. Dixon runs towards Miles’ body. As he reaches for his body to comfort his fallen detective, a glamorous femme fatale appear from the darkness because the beckoning gunshot drew her towards her fallen fiancé.
Mile’s dying words share his loves for his fiancé and the recognition of his caring detective Dixon. His final last words are “I’m so sorry Dixon, I’ve let you down.” This perplexes Dixon, leaving him and Miles’ fiancé wondering what his late detective meant by this.

This is showing the amount of people that had taken part in my questionnaire, and the age range in which are that had watched Film Noir. All of the people which I had asked had at least watched on Film Noir either in their own time or when they are studing it at school. These results have given me a better understinding of the target audience of Film Noir.
In conclusion the ages in which watch Film Noir or have a least seen a Film Noir production are between the ages of 15 - 30 and 50+, this is realistic because most Film Noir was at its peak in 1940's, which means that people over the age of 50 will have seen productions with such actors as Humphery Bogart, but as the result show that most of the people asked are 15 - 30, this could mean that these people are either in education studying Media or Film.
This is from the same set of results but on a different topic, this is showing what gender of people watch Film Noir, In these results it shows that the majority of people are male that have either seen a Film Noir production are watch Film Noir, this is possibly because most of the plot line of Film Noirs are Crime, which attracts to the male audience, but on the other hand some of the Film Noirs can be about romance which then attracts to the female audience. That is why the result are close because there are different sub-genres in Film Noir to suit the target auidences needs.
This is showing what sort of people watch Film Noirs, In this situation their are two outstanding results that have been collected and these are that people which are under the section of B and C1 are the most people which have seen or watch Film Noir.

Sunset Boulevard
This Film uses many of the main conventions of film noir and this is shown in opening sequence, for example the credits at the start instead of end are main feature of this genre. Also the tradition USA setting is shown as Hollywood is the setting. The films opening starts off by using a tradition film noir detective and police theme this is shown when a big crime is taken place, this is immediately shown. Another is that there is just one shot at the beginning showing the titles of the film, this would look good in my production because it is traditional feature.
Double Identity
From the opening of this film shows us a detective figure straight away and this is a main convention of the genre. This opening doesn't give much narrative to the audience just makes us think whats happening, where we see a very conventionally lit film noir opening with the main features. The lighting would be considered to use in my own projects e.g. street lights.
Touch of Evil
This Film noir opening is very conventional like the other using long trench coats, old cars and dark lighting. This opening is also different how it uses one long shot and grips us as we are shown with a bomb and an explosion between the both you are hooked and want to know when it goes off and why he does it. The feature I like most is the shadows used to portray how evil the villain is.

Similar Products - Conventions of Film Noir
The most obvious convention of Film Noir is that the picture has to be in a Black and White format. Other conventions can be put into different sections such as the following: Costume, Lighting, Characters/Actors, Location and Camera Angles/Shots.
Costumes is important because help to define Film Noir such as Male actors wear a hat and a coat and most of them smoke as shown in this picture.
On the other hand the Female actor needs to be attractive and that they are wearing glamourous clothing because this is a common convention of Film Noirs that they are attractive and stand out from everyone else, as shown in the other picture below.
The Lighting is an important Film Noir convention because it is known that there needs to be as little amount of light as possible to gain the maximum effect of the film, but you need the lighting in some parts of the scene to show the most important aspects of this scene.
The Location of the Film Noir needs to be in a city location as some of the main genres of Film Noir are Crime, Corruption and this isn’t a normal representation for this to happen in the countryside, whereas the city is a big built up place where crime and corruption is going to happen in a typical Film Noir production.
Finally the Camera work is one of the most important factors of Film Noir because it can help project what is going on in the best possible way, this is portrayed using such angles as Low angle, High angle, Dutch Tilt and wide angle shots, also there are ways in which camera skills and lighting work together because if in the right position this can cause silhouettes to appear and this is also a convention in Film Noir.
